Research

From small-scale projects to large-scale projects. I have worked in various sectors throughout my career. Before coming into the HCI, I was an Electrical engineer. During my time as an electrical engineer, I worked with Dr. P. Suresh on a research paper titled "Modified Particle Swarm Optimisation for Economic Load Dispatch Problem," Moreover, I worked as an Engineering intern for Schneider Electric, where I worked on single phase and three phase transformer units. In 2021, I ranked among the top 3% of candidates in the entire India in an Electrical engineering graduate aptitude test conducted by IIT Bombay.

Transitioning my career from Engineering to HCI. I transitioned my career into HCI because of my personal aspiration to make education technologies accessible to diverse groups of people. I worked as a UX Designer and UI Developer for IIT Ashram. In a short three-year Industry career, I was awarded the Best Employee of the Year award for two consecutive years(2021 & 2022). Working three years with IIT Ashram made me realize that taking an MS in HCI at UCSC was the next step; I was highly inspired by the program's focus on social justice.

As a Masters student at UCSC, I worked on a range of projects. Throughout my time, I worked closely with PhD students, Postdocs, and different labs. Here is a brief summary of my collaborations and experiences:

  • First quarter. I started enjoying HCI research by Joining the Christina and Norman lab Joint meetings; the research discussions around field studies and HCAI during the lab meetings piqued my interest to work on the different research projects.

  • Second quarter. I worked on an HRI project with Interaction Dynamics Lab(Sponsored by Honda Research Institute) as a Usability Researcher. In this project, I worked with Dr. Elin Carstensdottir and Dr. Katy Grasse on conducting the usability of navigation components in the data-playback features for a social simulator. Moreover, I self-defined my MHCI project with NASA Ames Research Center.

  • In the third quarter, I started working with Dr. Magy Seif El-Nasr and Dr. Mahnaz Roshanaei as an Independent researcher, where I worked drafting a research proposal and did literature review for designing an LLM-driven social-interaction study. Moreover, this quarter, I started working with NASA Ames Research Center on a project titled "Designing a next-generation user-centered planning and execution interface for future space missions."

  • In the final quarter, I worked with Dr. Magy Seif-El Nasr on a project exploring the research methods to design an AI-driven, mixed-initiative planning and decision-support system tailored for future space missions. Moreover, I continued my work with NASA Ames Research Center this quarter.
